Anyone else find that going shopping makes them get pretty hungry? That’s my reason behind purchasing this little item during a grocery shop on a rainy Friday evening. As I wandered down the aisles, my eyes ravenously scoured the shelves, looking for something to satisfy my craving quickly enough when we got home before I entered full-on ‘hangry’ mode.
I decided to settle on this vegetarian pie from Aldi’s chilled section. It is actually much smaller than it appears in the photo. Approximately hand-size and only needed about 10 minutes in an oven to be heated up and ready.
I’ll be honest, I never used to be a fan of cauliflower cheese. It conjures up too many memories for me of bad school dinners that always smelled a little pongy. But cauliflower has become quite the trendy vegetable in recent years and has become a firm favourite with hipster foodies (cauliflower steak, anyone?). So I decided to give this little cauliflower cheese pie a try.
It pretty much tasted like a traditional cauliflower cheese crossed with a quiche. The oat crumble topping was interesting and something that I’d not tried before. Both the topping and the shortcrust pastry served to add some texture to the creamy filling. The filling itself was smooth but didn’t taste too cloying or rich, perhaps in part due to the petite size of the pie. The cauliflower taste was subtle, not at all like the pongy school dinners I had memories of.
I’ll be honest, I was a fan of the pie. I thought it tasted pretty good, just the right mix of creamy, cheesy and crispy with the base and topping. It makes an ideal snack lunch or light dinner. Now conversely, and perhaps this is the reason why I’m writing a food review for once, Mr Reviews was not quite a fan. In his words, it tasted ‘something like Greggs at the end of the day.’ Whatever that might mean. You, dear reader, may love Greggs and feel a burst of excitement from reading that statement. Me personally, I don’t mind a Greggs every now and then.
It’s not something I would buy every time I’m at the shops and get struck by that terrible pang of hunger, but it was good to try something different and I would be interested to try more mini pies from Aldi’s chilled section.

Where can I get these pies? They’ve taken out from my local Biggleswade store to make room for xmas stock. I wanted to have this pie for my xmas day lunch – I’m veggie.
Hi Tracy, we got them from the fresh deli section at our local Aldi in Birmingham. Stock will vary from store to store. I hope you get to try them soon!
I’m not a veggie, however I tried one of these pies and had it with some ham and chips. Gotta say, I’m a fan. Delicious . Will certainly buy again.
I have just eaten the ALDI cauliflower cheese pie. I wasn’t too certain if it would be any good ,but have to confess it was delicious ,I had it with some garden peas and that was ample enough for me . I will definitely be buying this pie again ! ?
Just finished this pie and very impressed. Lovely crumble topping ad creamy filling. Will definately be buying again.
Heart attack on a plate! 140% of your daily recommend intake of saturated fats for the day, that’s without the other foods you have with it! Shocking!
